The London Blitz
By Julia Morris
In 1940, Nazi Germany had been bombing airstrips and factories of the London area. However, on the night of August 23rd or the early morning of the 24th, some bombers went off course and bombed the city of London. England was very mad, so to get even with Germany, they bombed Berlin. Hitler was furious about Berlin’s bombing, so he ordered the London Blitz, which was almost 57 days around the clock bombing.
In the first few weeks of the Blitz, 2,000 Londoners were killed and more than 10,000 were injured. On September 15th alone, 1,000 bombers attacked the city of London.
After the Blitz, everything was in chaos. 80% of London’s buildings were damaged or destroyed because of the bombs that had been dropped. Many people had nightmares, and poverty and unemployment reached new levels.
