Pearl Harbor

The attack on Pearl Harbor happened on December 7th, 1941. The attack was well planned by the Japanese. Japan’s plan was first to destroy the American Fleet. The Japanese did a good job of not letting the United States figure out that there was going to be an attack. America did have a few warnings that Japan was going to attack, but the U.S. ignored them. Japan chose to attack Pearl Harbor because it was the United States Main Naval base.  The main targets were the eight battleships among the 180 American Vessels. The first bombs fell at about 7:55am. The Japanese were successful.  Japan had destroyed over 150 acres. Japan destroyed 83 planes and killed over 2,500 people with the attack. The hardest hit areas were north of Pearl Harbor and the hospital. Many people thought that Roosevelt knew about the attack, but he had many supporters. Pearl Harbor was a devastating attack.
