Rationing
By Amy Rapp
Rationing started in America in 1942 during WWII. Foods and other items that were being conserved for the war effort were rationed. The Office of Price Administration (OPA) brought rationing into action. People were given books full of ration stamps/coupons. People would use these to buy rationed goods. The OPA made sure everyone got a fair share of the rationed items. If a person’s book of ration stamps was lost or stolen, it took a long time to replace. A person would only get one book a year, so he or she had to use it wisely.
